‘Apple Global Volunteer Program’ Will Let Employees Sign Up to Help Local Communities

Apple is no stranger to donating large sums of money to a cause, or to even help diversification within the tech industry.

But now it’s aiming to donate some individual human hours as well, based on a report recently published by 9to5Mac. According to the report, and citing a memo sent by Apple to employees today, the new initiative is called the “Apple Global Volunteer Program,” and it’s meant to get Apple employees to help within local communities even more. The program will be launching in United States, Cork, Ireland and Sydney, Australia. This volunteer program will be open to both corporate and retail employees, according to the report.

Here’s the memo:

Since its launch in 2011, the Apple Matching Gifts Program has been an astounding success, with a combined total of over $78 million donated to charities and non-profits around the world. Now employees in the U.S. have a new way to make an even bigger impact on the causes they care about where they live: the Apple Global Volunteer Program. The program empowers employees to become Volunteer Champions and receive training and tools to help organize and publicize volunteer events in their communities. It also makes it easy for employees to find activities where they can volunteer their time and quality for Matching Gifts. Right now we’re piloting the program in the US, Sydney, and Cork with the goal of expansing it worldwide in the future.

The program is designed to help employees not only start new charities or groups, but also champion those that already exist. Apple will also match donations that are provided through this new incentive.
