A leak surrounding the iPhone 12 series from YouTuber Jon Prosser has revealed quite a bit of new information about these devices. The leak says that the prototyping stage of the iPhone 12 lineup is almost done. This is usually done by end of January every year but there has been a delay this time around due to the coronavirus outbreak.
As per the leak, the 2020 iPhone 12 lineup will comprise of four devices. The two budget-oriented iPhones in this lineup include the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 codenamed ‘D52G’ and the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 codenamed ‘D53G.’ Both these phones will sport a dual-camera system, A14 chip, 5G connectivity, and an aluminum body. The other two high-end iPhones will include a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro codenamed ‘D53P’ and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max codenamed ‘D54P.’ These devices will feature a stainless steel body, A14 chip, 5G connectivity, and a triple-camera system along with a LiDAR scanner.
It is understandable as to why Apple is using an aluminum body on the two cheaper iPhones as it would help keep their price in check. The dual-camera setup on these devices should be similar to what we see on the iPhone 11 currently — a wide-angle and an ultra-wide angle. The telephoto sensor and LiDAR scanner will be exclusive to the ‘Pro’ lineup. All the four iPhone models will also have a smaller notch at the front, though there is no word on just how much smaller it is. A rumor from 2019 had also pointed to the 2020 iPhones coming with a smaller notch.
There’s no word on the display technology used on these devices, though previous rumors point to Apple switching to OLED displays across its 2020 iPhone lineup. The smallest 5.4-inch iPhone 12 is expected to be of the same size as the iPhone 8. Apple will be able to include a bigger display on the device by reducing the bezels and ditching Touch ID in favor of Face ID.
